How To Regulate Your Luxury Watch

A luxury watch is a big investment. You want to make sure that you are taking care of it so that it lasts for years and years. Regulation is an important part of watch maintenance. In this blog post, we will give you a step-by-step guide on how to regulate your luxury watch.

What is meant by watch regulation?

A watch regulates itself by controlling the speed at which the gears turn. This, in turn, controls how fast or slow the hands move around the face of the watch. If a watch is not properly regulated, the hands may move too fast or too slow, which can make it difficult to tell time accurately

Types of watch regulation

There are two main types of regulation: manual and automatic. Manual regulation is when you physically adjust the speed of the gears by turning the knob on the side of the watch. Automatic regulation is when the watch automatically adjusts its speed based on how much activity you’re doing throughout the day.

Both types of regulation have their pros and cons, but if you want to ensure that your watch is always accurate, we recommend having it professionally regulated every few years.

How Often Should I Regulate My Watch?

Ideally, you should have your watch regulated every three to five years. However, if you notice that your watch is losing or gaining time regularly, it’s a good idea to take it in for service sooner rather than later.

How Much Does It Cost to Regulate a Watch?

The cost of regulating a watch varies depending on the type of watch and the complexity of the repair. Generally speaking, simple repairs like cleaning and oiling will cost less than more complex ones like replacing gears or springs

How Do I Know When My Watch Needs to Be Regulated?

If your watch is losing or gaining time regularly, it’s a good indication that it needs to be regulated. You may also notice that the second hand appears to “jump” instead of moving smoothly around the dial. These are both signs that your watch’s gears are slipping and need to be adjusted.

How To Regulate Your Luxury Watch At Home

Step One: Set the time and date

When you first get your luxury watch, you will want to set the time and date. This is important because it ensures that your watch is keeping accurate time. You can do this by pulling out the crown (the knob on the side of the watch) and turning it until the time and date are correct

Step Two: Check the power reserve

The power reserve is what keeps your watch running when it is not wound. Most luxury watches have a power reserve of 42 hours. This means that if you wind your watch on Friday night, it will continue to run until Sunday morning without needing to be wound again

To check the power reserve, simply look at the dial on your watch (usually located at the 6 o’clock position). There should be a gauge that tells you how much power is left in the reserve

Step Three: Winding your watch

You will need to wind your watch every few days to keep it running properly. To do this, simply unscrew the crown and wind it clockwise until you feel resistance. Be careful not to over-wind as this can damage the mechanism inside your watch

Once the crown is screwed back in, your watch should be good to go!

Following these simple steps will help you keep your luxury watch in good working condition for many years to come. Regular regulation is an important part of maintaining a high-quality timepiece.
